🛝 Best Soft Play in Telford: A Dad's Honest Half Term Guide

Soft play reviews on the internet are almost always written by mums. These aren't. In our house, soft play is very much a dad activity, which means these reviews come with slightly different priorities. Is there decent coffee? Can I see my daughter from the seating area? Is the car park straightforward? Can I sit down for more than thirty seconds?

🐒 JungleLand

One of Telford's biggest soft plays and genuinely impressive for mixed age families. There's a huge slide that is absolutely worth the climb, a safe toddler section where little ones can explore independently, and a train ride that you will be boarding whether you planned to or not. Your child has already decided.

I also spent more time on the motorised digger attraction than my daughter did. I stand by this completely.

The biggest win? On-draught Coca Cola. Is it a full pub-style draught? It's a soda fountain. Did I get to sit and actually drink it? Also no. I got a strawful every time we ran past the table. But it was there and that counts for something.

🐼 Panda-Monium

Clean, modern, well laid out and genuinely good for toddlers and younger children. I was in the small toddler section both times I visited, which meant I had a front row seat watching the older kids absolutely losing their minds around us.

I didn't eat or drink anything because I never left the floor. The mums, however, did not move from their seats for the entire visit. I can only assume the coffee and cake were exceptional. I have no evidence to the contrary.

Both times I visited I was the only dad in the building. Make of that what you will.

Tip: parking can be tight on busy days. Arrive early or walk in from town.

👑 Pirates and Princesses Adventure Zone

This one has a special place in my heart because I accidentally achieved genuine airtime on the slide. I sat down, pushed off, hit a bump, slammed down hard enough to generate speed, and arrived at the bottom considerably faster than expected with people staring. My daughter found it absolutely hilarious. We went again immediately.

A few genuinely useful things worth knowing: the arcade machines including the horse racing game are all contactless pay, the food is kid friendly, and they cater well for allergies and intolerances. Good coffee too. One of the more parent-friendly setups on this list.

🧩 My Little Play Place

I have been dragged into every single section of this soft play multiple times. Apparently we had not truly lived until we had taken a shopping basket absolutely crammed with every plastic food item that would fit, transported it solemnly to the play gym, and attempted to unload it while also defending the basketball hoop.

My record is six consecutive shots. It would have been more but she relocated without warning mid-game. I don't think she noticed my achievement at all.

I cannot vouch for the coffee because I was never once allowed to sit down.

Technically this is a role play centre rather than a soft play. I spent fifteen minutes pretending to be a construction worker hitting things with a hammer while a toddler supervised my technique and found it lacking. The distinction between this and soft play is lost on me. It counts!

🧚 Kiddos Kingdom, Coalbrookdale

I did not request this. I did not get a say. She was very pleased with her work.

Full disclosure, this one is more Tabi's domain than mine. They have a proper seating area with more coffee varieties than I knew existed, and if your little one has an active imagination they will be completely in their element.

Tabi has significantly more fun here than I do. That is not a criticism. It is simply an honest assessment of who this particular soft play was designed for. She is their target audience. I am support staff.

My personal highlights include petting a rocking horse and having my hair done in the play hairdressing chair. I did not request either of these experiences. I did not get a say.

Also technically a role play centre rather than a soft play. At this point I've accepted that the line between the two is wherever a toddler decides it is.

🌸 Dobbies Garden Centre

The most underrated entry on this list and genuinely the least stressful soft play experience I have had. Small, quiet, perfect for littler humans, inexpensive, and you can stop for lunch in the café afterwards.

The soft play itself is calm and gentle. Afterwards I put her in the trolley and we went around the garden centre together, which sounds incredibly wholesome and largely was, except for the 🦝 raccoon grabby hands situation whenever we went near anything edible. She was on a mission.

Now. The café. My one genuine complaint and I stand by this completely... They did not stock Skips! In a garden centre café. A place that sells everything from begonias to bird feeders somehow could not stretch to the greatest prawn cocktail crisp on the market. I will be writing to someone about this. Possibly to the RHS. I feel they should know.

What they did stock was Quavers. She couldn't have them at the time due to a milk intolerance, so we kept moving quickly passed before she clocked them. Mission mostly accomplished.

🍔 Wacky Warehouse: Bridge Builder

Soft play attached to a pub restaurant, ideal for combining a proper lunch with playtime. We haven't personally reviewed this one yet but it comes consistently recommended by Telford families for mixed age groups and the food gets good reviews.

• Always check for contactless payment before committing to the arcade

• The coffee quality varies wildly. JungleLand and Pirates and Princesses are your safest bets
